Look at ten recruitment agency websites in any sector and you will see the same things. A stock photo of a handshake or a smiling team around a laptop. A job search bar. A headline about putting people first. A colour palette of blue and grey.
None of it is wrong. All of it is forgettable.
Why it happens
Most recruitment websites are built from similar templates, briefed against the same list of competitors and written to avoid saying anything that could be challenged. The result feels safe. It also means a potential client comparing three agencies has no visual or verbal reason to remember yours.
When everyone looks the same, buyers compare on the only thing left: fees.
What clients are actually looking for
A hiring manager visiting your site wants to know three things quickly. Do you understand my market? Have you done this before? Can I trust you with a difficult hire? A candidate wants to know whether you have relevant roles and whether you will treat them well.
Generic copy answers none of these. Specific evidence answers all of them.
How to stand out
Lead with your specialism
"We recruit data engineers for fintech scale-ups" is more memorable, and more searchable, than "we connect great people with great companies". Say what you do, for whom and where, in the first line.
Show real proof
Case studies, named consultants with genuine expertise, placement examples, market reports and client testimonials do more than any stock photo. They also give search engines and AI assistants the evidence they need to recommend you.
Build a distinctive visual identity
A recognisable brand uses colour, typography and layout in a way that is clearly yours. Ask whether someone could identify your website with the logo removed. If not, there is room to be bolder.
Write like your best consultant talks
The best consultants are direct, knowledgeable and human. Your website copy should be too. Cut the jargon, say what you mean and have an opinion.
Design for both audiences
Clients and candidates need different journeys. Make it obvious within seconds where each should go, and give each a clear next step.
Make it fast and mobile-first
Most candidates will visit on a phone. A slow, cluttered site undoes good branding instantly.
Distinctive does not mean loud
Standing out is not about neon colours or gimmicks. It is about being specific, confident and consistent. A recruitment agency website that clearly reflects what makes the business different will win more of the right clients, attract better candidates and make fee conversations easier.
