Structured data for recruitment websites: beyond job postings

3 min readTRG Digital

Most recruitment websites that use structured data stop at job postings. That is a good start, but it leaves search engines and AI assistants guessing about everything else: who you are, what you do, where you operate and why you can be trusted.

Structured data, also called schema markup, is code that describes your content in a standard format machines can read. Done well, it helps your business appear more accurately in search results and AI answers.

Organisation

Describes your business: name, logo, website, contact details, social profiles and founding information. This helps search engines connect the different places your business appears online.

Local business

For each office, describes the address, opening hours, phone number and area served. It supports local search visibility and Google Business Profiles.

Service

Describes each service you offer, such as permanent recruitment, executive search or RPO, and the sectors or areas they cover. This helps AI assistants understand exactly what you do.

FAQ

Marks up questions and answers on your FAQ and service pages. Clear, well-structured FAQs are among the most useful content for AI assistants answering questions about your sector.

Article

Marks up insights, guides and news with the author, date and topic, helping search engines understand and attribute your content.

Person

Describes consultants and leaders, their roles and areas of expertise. Strong, consistent profiles help establish your team as experts.

Breadcrumb

Shows how pages fit into your site structure, which can improve how they appear in search results.

Getting it right

  • Mark up only what is visible on the page.
  • Keep information accurate and consistent with other listings.
  • Render structured data in the page code rather than relying on scripts.
  • Test with Google's Rich Results Test and monitor Search Console.

Why it matters now

As more searches are answered by AI, being clearly understood by machines becomes as important as being read by people. Structured data is one of the simplest ways to make your recruitment business easy to understand.
